Pining for more

The Bros. Landreth is the new project from Joey and Dave Landreth, two brothers who are seasoned players in the music scene, having taken the stage with acts such as Doc Walker and Imaginary Cities. Filled out with Ryan Voth on drums (Imaginary Cities, the New Lightweights), the Bros. Landreth are a force to be reckoned with.

Works In Progress is the band’s debut EP and serves as an amuse-bouche for the full-length, to be released this fall, 2013. Though the album is only three songs long, the tracks are well-written, catchy, beautiful, and display the strong musical talent that these three gentlemen embody.

The album begins with “Greenhouse,” a soft ballad reflecting on love lost sung by Joey, whose angelic voice will melt your insides. The second track, “Our Love,” is an upbeat number with a funk influence that really displays the rhythm section’s ability to drive a solid groove, not to mention Joey’s guitar chops that could put the likes of John Mayer to shame.

The album comes to a close with “Runaway Train,” another slower track about a man who just can’t seem to settle down with one person, featuring hauntingly beautiful lap steel sounds that really make this song shine.

Works In Progress certainly leaves the listener pining for more and impatiently waiting for the band’s next release. If this EP is any indicator of the Bros. Landreth’s potential, then expect big things from them in the years to come.
