Volunteer
The Manitoban would not be able to publish weekly issues without the help of many many volunteers. As such, we are truly and deeply in love with volunteers and the thought of new ones stumbling into our moist clutches gets our hearts pumping real fast. Real fast.
If you have ever thought you might like to write anything at all in life, volunteering for the Manitoban can be hugely rewarding.
One of our goals is to serve as an educational tool for those interested in writing. We will edit your work and send back suggestions on how it could be improved.
If you’re a seasoned writer and the thought of that makes you sick, then you could surely use some experience working with editors. Gaining the perspective of another individual is a quick way of generally improving your writing ability.
Better yet, if you’re new to writing, you’ll get a running start by, if you like, being handed a topic to write about. We will be available to help you work on it, to look at drafts and to give any advice you may need.
All of our staff started out as volunteers, so we all understand that it can be very difficult to put yourself out there, flaunting your ideas to thousands. It does get easier, but that first article is daunting and we understand that. We’re here to help.
I can personally guarantee that you will make an editor’s day if you send them an email letting them know you’re interested in writing. Go ahead, make an editor’s day!
Furthermore, there are a lot of extra “perks” that will become apparent as you volunteer more and more. I won’t go into details, but lets just say, steam is involved.
