The University of Manitoba Bison men’s hockey team swept the University of Regina Cougars this weekend, and the Bison women’s volleyball team split against the University of Alberta, and men were swept in Edmonton.
There was a plethora of University of Manitoba teams away from the familiar confines of the Wayne Fleming Arena or IGAC this weekend.
Both the men and women earned split their two-game series against the Bobcats.
Kearley Abbott of the women’s volleyball team was named the Canada West rookie of the year.
The men’s volleyball team were on the losing end of a sweep against the third-ranked Spartans, whilst the women continued their dreary 2017 by getting swept.
The men’s volleyball team brought their winning streak to 20 with two straight wins, and the women’s volleyball team extended their losing streak to 10 with two straight losses.
The first-ranked men’s team dominated and won 3-0 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday. The women had their losing streak extended after losing 3-1 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday.
The men won handily, not dropping a single set all weekend to bring their current win streak to 16. The women lost 3-1 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday; they have now lost six in a row.
The third-ranked men’s team won 3-0 on Friday and 3-1 on Saturday. The women meanwhile, fell 3-2 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday.
The men brought their winning streak to 12 with a sweep, while the women had their four-game winning streak snapped after getting losing both games.
