Photo volunteering
About Maria
Maria studies art history at the U of M. Her first photograph for the Manitoban was of a parking lot and her mom really liked it.
How it works
The design team meets every Wednesday at around 4:30pm (after the Manitoban staff meeting which is at 3:30pm) and discusses all the images that will go into the issue. We use the time to figure out what will be a photo and what will be a graphic and delegate tasks to any volunteers who are present. So come on down to the design meetings! Afterwards, the photographers can chat and discuss what approach to take, our work from past issues, whatever we want! OR email me at photo@themanitoban.com to tell me you’re interested and to set up a time to chat with me. OR go to http://manitobanphoto.tumblr.com/ and check out the latest photo requests!
What types of photos do we need?
All types! Journalistic news photos, sporty photos, arts photos, editorial photos, scientific photos, cultural photos, campus scene photos, big photos, small ones, tidbits, even covers! You name it, we need it! There is also a photo of the week contest that gives you the opportunity to have your favorite art photo printed in the paper and featured on the front page of the brand new Manitoban website for a week! What a thrill!
Why Volunteer?
Volunteering is awesome! Having your photos in print looks great on the resume and is an all around fantastic experience. Why not add to your portfolio, meet new people, improve your skills, and have a hand in shaping your student paper with your own creative flair!
