The Background Info
Name: John Makie
Sport: football
Position: Quarterback
Jersey number: 7
Hometown: Regina, Sask.

Manitoban: When and how did you get your start in football?

John Makie: I was about seven years old, and my dad showed me his scrapbook of when he played as a kid. So I thought that was pretty neat. And I liked all the equipment, so I decided to try it out.

M: Why did you decide to play at the U of M?

JM: Coach Dobie. He’s a great recruiter, and very good, and a very personal kind of guy. He got to know my family. He’s very good at what he does.

M: Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?

JM: I always wear the same undershirt. I never wash it, either. It’s the same one.

M: How do you or the team celebrate a big win?

JM: We just come together as a team and we reflect on the game with a couple refreshments. We enjoy it.

M: What is your personal greatest sporting accomplishment?

JM: Winning the conference.

M: Is there a player you like to emulate your game around?

JM: I always answer this question with my dad. I always wanted to be like my dad when I was growing up. He played fullback, so I kind of went to Peyton Manning. I’d like to be Peyton Manning.

M: Favourite movie?

JM: Lord of the Rings. All of them. The whole trilogy.

M: Favourite television show?

JM: It’s gotta be The Family Guy.

M: Favourite musician?

JM: I’m going to get razzed for this, but it’s 2Pac and Biggie.

M: Favourite book?

JM: Lord of the Rings.

M: Favourite sport, other than football?

JM: Basketball.

M: If you could sit down for dinner with anyone, dead or alive, celebrity or non-celebrity, who would it be?

JM: I’m going to have to say my grandma.

M: What do you consider your most valuable possessions?

JM: My family.

M: What is your favourite thing about the holiday season?

JM: My family.
