Re: Misplaced Sympathy, Nov. 7 issue.
Jacinthe Blab refuses to accept the points I made and instead nitpicks at the words that offend her until the argument is no longer about the subject at hand, but rather about the choice of wording used. She claims to be all about sexual equality but accuses males of possessing an unfair “loophole” simply for being male. In the name of equality, I can only assume that Ms. Blab is in favor of legally enforcing a right for men to be informed of a woman’s choice to abort a fetus of which they are the father (which they currently are not).
Ms. Blab claims that she “will not justify harming anyone,” then proves the points I made in my original article by going on the usual leftist tirade pointing to racism, abuse and religion as legitimate reasons to excuse new mothers who try to kill their babies. Of course, society is already well aware of these problems, which is why we all happily pay taxes to fund countless programs and services, addressing every fathomable issue that could face Canadians. Inevitably, the odd person is going to slip through the cracks of said system. Those who do and then intentionally cause harm to their child are clearly in the wrong and should not be exempt from the laws of the land, period. (Nicole Kristensen would be wise to make note of this as well.) At some point, we need to stop and say enough is enough. The more we accommodate the lowest common denominators in society, the more the problem will flourish.
She claims to absolutely support free speech but then paints opposing views as “hate propaganda” and declares it has no place in the newspaper. I am wrong, the editors of The Manitoban are wrong, the Canadian Criminal Code is wrong, but she is right. And those who disagree should be censored. It is unfortunate that feminists are so often represented in the public domain by people like Ms. Blab. It really does give the rest of them a bad name.
