The Zoo opens its cages to some new animals
Ready Mix dance party revitalizes old bar

Ready Mix, the product of Kevin Fawley and Dan Lacho, is a new nightclub that’s been set up at the Osborne Village Zoo since the fall of Die Maschine — it’s quickly becoming a big draw for local students. Fawley explained, “Basically it’s like one giant party every Thursday night, we aren’t staying to one particular theme for it, rather, switching it up and trying new ideas to have at an event,”
On Oct. 25, Ready Mix threw a Halloween dance party that ended up being a huge success. According to Fawley, the “turn out was over 200 people, not including the regulars.” And why not? With cheap drink specials on Jag and MGDs, pizza, and a big space at its disposal, Ready Mix is poised to have a real name for itself within a short period of time. Fawley explained, “It basically started with the Shiver Me Timbers pirate social last year, after the night turned out to be killer, I questioned why the spot hadn’t seen more events than it had, that’s when we started talking about a Thursday night.” So, the manager gave the guys a shot at a Thursday night, “We actually had maybe five to six days once we got the OK to set everything up for the first night. Originally, we thought it would be a Wednesday, but that changed at the last minute. It was crazy at first, but now we’re pretty settled in.”
The night has made for a unique crowd as well. With Die Maschine gone, many of the Thursday night regulars have moved to Ready Mix. They have also seen a big draw from the Pyramid’s Mod night, especially since they do have band nights at the venue. Since Ready Mix doesn’t stick to any one theme, it has blended a lot of different Winnipeg scenes to make a really interesting night to come out and enjoy a cheap drink.
If you haven’t yet had a chance to come check out this venue, head down to the basement of The Zoo on your next Thursday night, there is a draw for everyone, guaranteed.
