The Manitoban recommends ....

One humble opinion of how you should occupy yourself for the next week.

2. Ten Canoes
Cinematheque Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 9 p.m. $6
The first movie ever filmed in an Australian indigenous language, Ten Canoes is masterful storytelling. Trust me: I bootlegged it from the Internet months ago and knew what was going on although there were no subtitles.
1. Corpell’s Water presents the Kicker, the Paperbacks, and Broken Orchestra of Winnipeg
West End Cultural Centre Nov. 2 8 p.m. $5
Experimental meets pop at this bonanza of Winnipeg’s best up-and-coming bands (OK, the Paperbacks, with their John K. Samson-produced second album awaiting release, have already kind of “made it” — is that a reason you shouldn’t go?).
HONORABLE MENTION:
Guy Fawkes Day
Nov. 5 anywhere and everywhere
Go out and spread some civil disobedience! For the newly initiated to this classically anarchist British holiday, try watching V for Vendetta or even indulging in some Satre. To avoid the paradigmatic scarecrow-burning, the more risqué are encouraged to “borrow property,” streak, and generally cause mayhem.
