Manitoban: When and how did you get your start in basketball?
Michelle Hynes: In elementary school was probably the first time I played basketball, and I liked it.
M: Why did you decide to play at the U of M?
MH: I liked the program and I liked the atmosphere as well. As a student-athlete, you have to look at both sides.
M: Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
MH: I like going to [physical] therapy two hours before a game, to get warmed up. I like shooting a lot before, too.
M: How do you or the team celebrate a big win?
MH: Depends on the weekend. If we’re tired, we’ll have a movie night. If not, we’ll go out on the town.
M: What is your personal greatest sporting accomplishment?
MH: Winning a national championship, and provincial championship in high school, and in club basketball in Grade 11.
M: Favorite movie?
MH: Rudy.
M: Favourite musician?
MH: Bryan Adams.
M: Favourite television show?
MH: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
M: Favourite sport, other than basketball?
MH: Badminton.
M: Favourite athlete?
MH: Steve Nash.
M: If you could sit down for dinner with anyone, dead or alive, celebrity or non-celebrity, who would it be?
MH: My grandpa, because I never got to meet him.
M: What are your thoughts on the WNBA? Is it worth keeping around?
MH: Yes, because it gives North Americans an opportunity to play at home in front of their fans. For a long time women had to [play] overseas, and for a lot of people that’s tough to do. So yeah, I do think it’s worthwhile [to keep as a league]. In terms of having fans and being successful financially, that’s another question.
