Meet the Bisons

Fifth-year wide receiver, Jeff Strome

Romer Bautista, Staff

Manitoban: When and how did you get your start in football?
Jeff Strome: I started when I was nine years old with the Crescentwood Grizzlies, a community team.
M: Why did you decide to play at the U of M?
JS: I came to the U of M after graduating high school mostly because Coach Dobie recruited me. He called me on the phone and said, “Do you want to come out to our spring camp and try out for the team?” and I did and I ended up making the squad that year.
M: Do you have any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
JS: I’m not an extremely superstitious guy, but I do have a routine that I like to follow before the game to try to stay relaxed and focused.
M: How do you or the team celebrate a big win?
JS: It depends. We don’t go too crazy. We know we’re working towards an ultimate goal and we’re saving our celebrations for the end.
M: What is your personal greatest sporting accomplishment?
JS: Being a part of this team.
M: Favorite movie?
JS: The Royal Tenenbaums.
M: Favourite musician?
JS: Neil Young.
M: Favourite television show?
JS: Seinfeld, hands down.
M: Favourite sport, other than football?
JS: Hockey.
M: Favourite athlete?
JS: I have a couple, but one of my favourites is Milt Stegall.
M: If you could sit down for dinner with anyone, dead or alive, celebrity or non-celebrity, who would it be?
JS: I’d probably want to sit down with Wayne Gretzky. Don’t know why, but I think he’d be a good guy to hang out with.
M: Finish this sentence: “If I were O.J. Simpson, I’d be . . . ”
JS: Hiding under a rock.
