Diva Cups!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the U of M Womyn’s Centre sells the Diva cup at cost ($35). We also have a sewing machine and fabric if you want to make your own reusable pads. We sometimes hold Padmaking workshops as well. We are located at 190 Helen Glass, come by and check it out!

Subversion at the ‘Toban

Get rid of William Gould. Week after week he turns what was once a respectable paper into a soapbox for his subversive right-wing agenda. It’s really pissing me off.

Starbucks on campus

(Re: No food or drinks in the libary! by Michael Silicz, Vol.95 NO.6, Septermer 19th, 2007)

Dear Editor,

Upon reading M. Silicz’s ode to capitalism in the disguise of Starbucks I couldn’t help wondering if the piece does really echo the two opposing opinions of the general student population. I’m sure the analogy of the Berlin wall has not persuaded those who like the desks they study at free of coffee spills and crumbs. Mr. Silicz, a dutiful law student, must realize that some don’t share his enthusiasm for the market forces for a reason better than protecting the "sanctimoniousness of the house of learning". May I remind you that we are obtaining our degrees from an institution where tuition fees constitute only 20% of university funding. I’m curious how many students would like to pay the full 100% of the cost of their education plus the additional expenses for cleaning the library and replacing damaged materials. Viva la capitalisme! Mr. Silicz, a future servant of Justice, must understand that the laws (as well as rules, policies and regulations) he will stand by in the near future have a logical ground for existence. "No food or drinks" rule is in place not to impose a tyranny on our rebellious and freedom-loving student population, but to cut some of University’s maintenance costs and spare the change in students’ pockets.
