Fashion fit for campus

How to look good with less effort than it takes to make your morning coffee

Pulling together a look to wear on campus is a most complex riddle that largely involves wanting to look cool, intellectual and fashionable, but without looking as though you are trying to hard. This complicated

mix, when successfully reached, results in a certain je ne sais quois look that leaves everyone around you in silent appreciation and jealousy.

However, the formula to achieve this look can seem so entirely unsolvable that a large majority

of us students on campus simply choose to go for a look that screams “I’m tired and hung over!” rather than one that has that special “x-factor.”

The resulting uniform of boot cut jeans and hoodies is whimsically uni-sex as well as joyously adaptable to every season in our harsh weather conditions. However, it is entirely possible for students to dress fashionably with as little effort as it takes to brew their morning java.

The upcoming season in fashion is particularly

workable for university students. In fact, many of the trends are easy to wear and lack the certain goon-like quality trends can have when transferred to a real life situation. Fashion has indeed been kind to us for this upcoming fall season, and you — yes, even you, can put together

comfortable looks that reflect your own personality.

Luckily for us university-dwellers, jeans are in. This seems an obvious fact, but the reality is that any kind of denim you can imagine (except perhaps acid wash) has made the fashion pages as of late. In particular, keep an eye out for wide-leg trouser-style jeans. These jeans look fabulous on just about everyone, slimming the thigh and giving you a hinny to die for; and are comfortable

beyond belief. And while skinny jeans are no longer a must-have trend item, skinny denim is still a closet staple for fall, being particularly useful

for showcasing a great pair of boots. To round out this look, pair your denim with boots in a great suede or leather in rich or vibrant colours.

A refreshing and easy to wear trend popping up everywhere this season is that of vintage-inspired

pieces. For the ultimate easy campus look, grab a vintage inspired tunic, throw it over your favourite pair of jeans and top it all of with some easy vintage inspired accessories, such as eye-catching costume-style pendants or the perfect tote. This look won’t take a lot of work since clothing lines are absolutely racked with such pieces for this fall.

A key to a chic campus look is colour. Don’t be afraid to go with rich purples, deep chocolate

browns, sensuous creams and warm olive greens- all easy to wear colours that when featured

in your outfit can help warm up your look. Try these colours as accents, featuring them in a running around campus friendly flat or a fantastic

over-sized bag, or showcase them with a cozy fall sweater or long coat. Be bold and experiment with patterns and fabrics, as this can be a great way to add a youthful and even intellectual vibe to your outfit.

Achieving the look you’ve always wanted does not have to be a difficult task. Use layering

to your advantage for both warmth and style, and lean on accessories to add variety and excitement

to your look. Invest in a few key pieces, such as those wide-leg trousers, a cozy sweater or the ever-fashionable tunic, and you’ll be able to de-stress your morning dressing routine to the point where you may actually make that 8:30 a.m. class. All in all, the reality is that looking fabulous and fashionable on campus doesn’t have to be as difficult as your Bio B midterm, rather it can be as breezy as your friendly afternoon jaunt to the beer gardens.
