UMSU holds AGM to review past year

On March 31, University of Manitoba Students’ Union (UMSU) executives gathered for an open annual general meeting held in the MPR room of University Centre.

Sran said that although the meeting was unable to make quorum, which is at least 200 attendees, the “AGM was wonderful.”

Sran told UMSU council on April 3 that 80-90 students came “in and out” and that it was an “enormous turnout.”

At the AGM, despite the inability to make quorum, executive members still presented their reports to the members in attendance.

Some of the items brought up included issues with the health plan opt-outs on the university’s Aurora system, implementation of lab fees, and the support of the UMFA and CAW unions.

In the AGM report, UMSU announced that it “has been a good year for the UMSU businesses in regard to revenues and profitability.”

Other announcements included the hiring of three new full-time staff, Sharilyn Finley, Melanie Myers and Thomas Blumer as well as mentioning the 120 part-time staff employed on campus.

The meeting was scheduled from 11:30 am to 1 p.m.
