Bison Sports Athletes of the Week: Robson and Howarth
Vicky Robson of the women’s track and field team and Kyle Howarth of the men’s hockey team have been named Bison Sports Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3.
Robson wins the award due to her record-breaking pole vault at the Cargill games on Feb. 2. Robson set a new team mark with a pole vault of 3.77 metres.
Howarth’s three points (one goal, two assists) helped the Bison men’s hockey team secure three of four points in their weekend series against the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
Mike Ridley Awards presented to 23 Bison hockey players
Nineteen players on the Bison men’s hockey team and four players on the Bison women’s hockey team have been named the 2007-08 recipients of the Mike Ridley awards based on their outstanding athletic ability, good academic standing, and high level of leadership as full-time students. Each award recipient will be given $1,000 in scholarship money.
The male award winners were: David Brown, Jon Cara, Steve Christie, Nick Cowan, Wade Davison, Riley Dudar, Chris Falloon, Justin Harris, Cole Hunter, Travis Kornelsen, Colin Lafreniere, Kyle Nichols, Rob Smith, Stewart Thiessen, Krister Toews, Nolan Waker, Calin Wild, Richard Wood, and Kip Workman.
The female award winners were: Dana Hoogsteen, Shannon Hoogsteen, Katherine O’Rourke, and Laura Tully.
