Sharp-shooting Chantal Larocque

Romer Bautista, Staff

The Background Info
Name: Chantal Larocque
Sport: women’s hockey
Position: winger
Jersey number: 20
Hometown: St. Anne, Man.

Manitoban: When and how did you get your start in hockey?
Chantal Larocque: I was about four years old and I was just playing out in St. Anne’s with the Aces. I played guys’ hockey. My family was a really hockey-oriented family.

M: Why did you choose to play at the U of M?
CL: I just chose it because of the girls mostly, and the coach. Coach [Rempel] is a really hard-working coach, and just knows how to win.

M: Do you have any game-day rituals or superstitions that you follow?
CL:
I tape my stick before I do my work-outs. I do my work-outs the same and I get dressed the same.

M: How do you celebrate a big win?
CL:
Just hanging out with the girls after the game.

M: What is your personal greatest sporting accomplishment so far in your career?
CL:
Probably getting third with the U of M three years ago at the [CIS] nationals.

M: What is your favourite movie?
CL:
300.

M: Favourite musician?
CL:
Justin Timberlake.

M: Favourite television show?
CL
: Prison Break.

M: Favourite sport, other than hockey?
CL:
I would say football.

M: Favourite book?
CL:
The Lord of the Rings.

M: Is there an athlete that you like to emulate?
CL:
Hayley Wickenheiser.

M: If you could sit down for dinner with anyone, dead or alive, celebrity or non-celebrity, who would it be, and why?
CL:
Probably my grandpa on my dad’s side. I haven’t met him. He passed away when I was born.

M: Do you have any resolutions for the new year that you have that you can share with the Manitoban’s readers?
CL:
Probably to go to class every day.

M: Have you kept that resolution, or broken it?
CL:
I have kept that, actually.
