Employment

The Manitoban is hiring!

The Manitoban is currently hiring two part-time staff members for the 2007-08 publishing year.

All positions receive a biweekly honorarium, and require a time commitment of approximately 20-30 hours per week.

All editors will also be responsible for seeking out, working alongside and supervising staff and volunteers, attending editorial board and staff meetings as well as other assigned duties. Editors will be expected to develop healthy working relationships with contributors to ensure all submissions meet deadlines.

Applicants must be current post-secondary students or must have been registered within the past two years.

Positions available:

NEWS EDITORS

Curious? The Manitoban is hiring one or two news editors to coordinate and edit a four- to six-page weekly section, focusing on the U of M campus but exploring all issues of relevance to U of M students. A critical interest in political affairs is a must, as is a commitment to balanced reporting.

DESIGN EDITOR

The Manitoban is seeking an artistically inclined editor with healthy esthetic sensibilities to design a 24- to 36-page weekly tabloid-format newspaper. The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in graphic design and preferably experience in designing for print media. Candidates must be familiar with InDesign, and be able to work long hours in order to adhere to rigid publishing deadlines each week without fail. Experience with ad design would be an asset.

For more information on any of these positions, please contact editor-in-chief Tessa Vanderhart at 474.6535 or hiring@themanitoban.com, or visit 105 University Centre. Full job descriptions are available and questions are encouraged.

Applications are due Thursday, May 31, and should include a cover letter, resume, and portfolio of three to five relevant samples of work (may include academic works as well as journalistic ones). Please send applications to:
