Toban Talkback

With the break coming up, does it bother you that people call it “Christmas” or should people be using “holidays” to describe the time off?

I use the word Christmas and holidays — I don’t really like x-mas, however. If people are opposed to the word Christmas because they are trying to make it generic for others who may not celebrate the holiday they should do it for every single one.

You totally have to go with Christmas. I am opposed to “winter holidays.” You can’t take Christmas out of Christmas — everyone knows it’s Christmas, it would be like calling Halloween Pumpkin Day — it’s just not right.

Definitely Christmas, I’m totally opposed to “holidays.” There are many holidays in a year and this one is special and should be recognized as distinguishable.

I think we should use Christmas because we are dealing with a Christian holiday. If we are dealing with a Muslim holiday, or another religious holiday you have to use proper terms for respectful purposes — same should go for this one.

The word holiday doesn’t bother me so much, but the word Christmas can get irritating. It’s over-done I think, and sometimes it’s too much in your face. Coming from different backgrounds it can feel like Christmas is a part of the only religion here, when really there is so much diversity.
