Winnipeg police officers responded to a call from University of Manitoba’s campus security regarding a breakand- enter at the U of M’s Fort Garry campus on Monday, Nov. 6, 2006.
Referencing the filed police report, Sergeant Kelly Dennison of the Winnipeg Police Department stated that the incident took place in a catering office on campus. The money was stolen from a safe located inside the office.
At the time of the initial report, it was not clear how much money was stolen. Since then it has been established how much was taken but the amount cannot be released at this time.
Dennison did confirm that “there was a significant amount of money stolen.”
The police identification unit was sent to the scene of the crime to try to obtain evidence, but no further information could be released at press time.
Although U of M’s Special Functions services held numerous events on the date of the crime, there is no indication that the theft was connected to any specific event.
“This has been assigned to the crime unit out in that area, so they’ll be investigating it from here on in,” said Dennison.
