What circumstances, if any, legitimize going to war?

I think war is only legitimate if your homeland is being invaded; if your home is going to be destroyed.

An offensive war is not legitimate. But a defensive war is legitimate because you have to defend yourself. Like World War II as opposed to Iraq.

People’s reason for engaging war is to conquer land . . . In conquering the land, if one country doesn’t have a strong enough force to stop the other one, the other one will invade.

I suppose as a last resort for a desperate situation, and if it’s only guaranteed to resolve a situation that would be worse-off in the end, like a potential genocide; in order to stop a catastrophe from happening.

Sometimes you have to do battle as a last resort. Like in Episode II, when Yoda confronted Count Dooku. All else failed, so Yoda had no choice but to fight Dooku. And Yoda kicked Dooku’s ass, and the good guys went home happy.
