Toban Talkback

Students voice their opinions on the re-election of Mayor Sam Katz

JENELLE PETRINCHUK

Annamaria Kodalonin
U1

Do you think the re-election of Sam Katz was a good thing or bad thing?
I’m actually relatively unhappy with the results of the election last week. I think that Winnipeg really needed some change and with the results there won’t be any for the next couple years. Sam Katz, I don’t think is the mayor that we want for Winnipeg and in his last tenure as mayor he didn’t do a particularly good job and I was really upset with the majority that he had.

Did you vote?
I’m actually not 18 yet but I would have voted . . . I can’t wait until I’m 18 so that I can vote.

What do you think of Sam Katz being re-elected?
I like it. I support him highly. He’s a good mayor and everything he’s planned to do, everything he’s done for the city so far makes so much more sense as opposed to everyone else just coming in and going “everything’s screwed up and everything’s wrong.” He’s the only one who put down solid ideas like, “this is what needs to be done, this is what I’m going to do, and this is how your money’s going to be spent.”

Did you vote?
Oh yeah! I missed my math lab for it!

What do you think of last week's election results?
I didn’t vote. I just think . . . these people, like their platforms are only responses to stupid questions. If they had a platform that actually mattered instead of [Katz’s]; “if you re-elect me I’m going to synchronize all the [traffic] lights.” He should synchronize the lights anyway. He should always be doing that, it’s his job! I think it’s a little bit ridiculous, that’s all.

What did you think of the election results last week?
I didn’t really care, ’cause no one was running against Katz so the election was almost pointless. There were no other candidates running for mayor that were really worthwhile. I have a displeasure against Katz. I voted but I didn’t really care because basically you knew the outcome of the election.
