Which star trek race are you?
The human side of aliens
BEN POGGEMILLER STAFF
Looking for costume ideas for Halloween? Well nothing says “coolest person at the party” like a Star Trek costume. Nobody wants to be a boring old human, so which species is right for you? Star Trek has always been about reflecting our society and many of the aliens reflect distinct human attributes. It’s not enough to look the part — you must embody it. Although not exhaustive, here is a list of a few of the primary races in the Star Trek universe.
Klingon
Do you value honour above all else? Are you aggressive, loud and brutish? Are you a harsh advocate of natural selection? Maybe you should be a Klingon. Klingons are an example of testosterone run amok — even Klingon females. Their solution to nearly every dispute is a fight to the death, even over whose turn it was to drive in the local carpool.
Vulcan
Does logic dictate your actions? Do you hide your emotions from others? If you find yourself frequently saying “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few,” you should be a Vulcan. These green-blooded, pointyeared practicalists find the reasonable solution to everything without letting emotion get in the way, even if it irritates others. Unfortunately, logic and reason can be subjective, and some Vulcans tend to hold a different code of ethics, causing corruption and fanaticism within their ranks. Vulcans are also astoundingly good at baseball (see Deep Space Nine season 7, episode 4).
Cardassian
Does the end justify the means? Are you an expert at deception and cloak and dagger tactics? Do you hate virtually everyone but yourself? Cardassians are power-hungry xenophobes who lurk in the shadows and wait to make their presence known. Once in power, they rule with an iron fist. Their Orwellian society comes complete with a secret police force and oppressive government.
Ferengi
Would you sell your own mother just to make a profit? Ever try to talk your way out of a troublesome situation? The Ferengi, a profit-driven species, will do anything to make a buck. They exploit Adam Smith’s invisible hand to the point where it practically hands them money. Ferengi are typically cowardly and will usually try to bargain for their life. When they have the advantage however, they use their fiscal leverage to fully benefit themselves. Ferengi culture and technology has only advanced in the interest of profit.
The Borg
Are you a slave to fashion? Do you always have to fit in wherever you go? Do you adapt to new trends? I can just picture the writers of Star Trek: The Next Generation sitting around wondering, “How can we translate zombies into space?” The answer, of course, is the Borg. With the Borg there is no individuality, no creativity, and no culture; there is only assimilation. They have only a collective consciousness and their only pursuits are that of technology and homogeneity.
