Women’s hockey team names team captains
Prior to the start of their 2006-07 season, Coach Jon Rempel and the Bison women’s hockey team were pleased to announce that Leanne Kisil, a third-year centre, will be the team captain for the upcoming season. Kisil had an amazing season last year, leading the team with 19 points (11 goals, eight assists). She was also named a first-team all-star in Canada West, and given the distinction of being the Bisons’ team MVP.
The team also announced that Jaclyn Van Deynze, Stephanie Messner, and Shannon Hoogsteen will be representing the team as alternate captains.
Bisons sweep Canada West football honours
Three members of the Bisons football squad were honoured after the team’s dominating road victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies on Oct. 7. Defensive end Justin Cooper was named Canada West defence football athlete of the week, running back Matt Henry was named Canada West football offensive player of the week, and kick specialist Jim Jeavons was named Canada West special teams football athlete of the week.
Cooper pressured Huskie quarterback Bret Thompson all day, and he finished the game with five tackles and a sack. Henry was the game’s leading rusher, running for 140 yards on just 21 carries. Jeavons is credited with the starting games turning point, when he came untouched and blocked a Huskies punt attempt, leading to an easy Brady Browne touchdown.
