Toban Talkback - Academic suspension

What do you think should be the maximum amount of credit hours of “Fs” a student should be allowed before being placed on academic suspension?

JENELLE PETRINCHUK STAFF

Recently, in the Faculty of Arts there was a change to the number of “F” grades a student is permitted before being placed on academic suspension. An Arts student is now allowed 30 credit hours of “Fs.”

Jessie Stjerneberg

“I’d say about 18 credit hours. How many Fs do you need before you straighten up your act? There’s obviously accidents that happens but you have to draw the line somewhere.”

“I would say about three Fs. [Too many] would bring down our university’s reputation.”

Doug Allen

“About 30. Everyone makes mistakes but obviously if you get to a certain point when your not in the academic mind-set, you probably shouldn’t be in university.

Joyce Delacruz

“Probably six. About two courses. That would really hurt their GPA.”

“I would say probably a full term of Fs. I know there are a lot of first year students that probably have a lot of trouble with [grades] just from being new students and coming to a new school but if you can’t adjust in your first year, how are you going to adjust in your second year?”
