Students advocating the resignation of Dylan and Carson
Student group gets tough with Ferguson and Jerema
ANNE ONIMOOSE
Two members of the Manitoban who are constantly under fire are editor-in-chief Carson Jerema and features editor Dylan Ferguson. Every week, swarms of mail pour into the Manitoban office expressing distaste for these two writers. One student group has decided to channel their anger towards these two individuals, and help others do the same. Needless to say, I was interested.
The U of M Students Advocating the Resignation of Dylan and Carson (SARDAC) group was formed to appeal to students who harbour resentment towards Carson Jerema and Dylan Ferguson.
Friends and fellow students John Boyson and Jeff Satira noticed that week after week Jerema and Ferguson were outputting offensive material.
I had a chance to interview SARDAC president Boyson and vice-president Satira, which proved insightful.
“Those two are always causing trouble,” said Boyson, “We just want to make it easier for students who dislike them to make their voices heard.”
I asked Boyson and Satira to address the two “hate-mongers” separately.
“Carson Jerema is anti-student,” said Boyson, “he doesn’t care about the tuition crisis in Manitoba.” Satira added, “He’s always throwing numbers at us. He always talks about what’s happening at other universities. We don’t care what happened at University of Saskatchewan. This is Manitoba.”
Moving on to Ferguson, Satira opened with, “You can’t just call something satire and then say whatever you want. Behind sarcasm there’s always some truth.” Boyson chimed in, “He obviously hates females, gays, MLCC employees, all students, the environment and rockabilly music.”
Membership in SARDAC gets you a weekly pre-written letter to the editor demanding the resignation of Carson Jerema and Dylan Ferguson, and anyone else SARDAC deems fit for committing various crimes against students. You will also receive a SARDAC button, a t-shirt with a picture of Jerema on the front, which says, “Enroll This,” and a plaque of appreciation from UMSU.
I asked Boyson what the group would do if Jerema and Ferguson did resign, to which he replied, “Well we’re secretly hoping that they won’t for the next couple of weeks since the pens are still coming. But seriously, there are always others who will need reprimanding.”
When asked about in-coming editor-in-chief Tessa Vanderhart, Boyson and Satira replied, “We’re not fans.”
