The Lookout, the directorial debut from writer Scott Frank, stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt along with Jeff Daniels. It is a crime drama focusing on Gordon-Levitt’s character, an ex-star athlete who received severe head trauma back in high school. He works as a janitor in a small town bank which happens to be the target of a bank robbery. While the story is in fact interesting, that’s hardly the reason for the attention this film has been receiving locally. It was filmed here in Winnipeg, as well as in the small town of Hartney. There is a scene that actually takes place in the Millennium Library. But you know what? This is not cool Canada, not cool at all.
We’re selling out to these American Capitalist Dogs. They press in, strangling our freedom. For so long we have let them take advantage of us, but this must stop. First they take our resources and now they try to film their Consumerist propaganda here. Outrage! Outrage I say! We must not rely on these traitors to the British Crown. We can’t rely on the past, therefore we must rely on the future. What is that future you ask? Communism. We must turn to our red brothers in Russia.
If you don’t believe me, look at their film industry. Released recently was the hugely successful film, Day Watch. It is the second film in a trilogy which is helmed by visionary director Timur Bekmambetov. That film alone made a profit of 1650% over the cost of actually making it. The best part about this is that they stayed in their own country to film it (I think). And with numbers like what I’ve just shown you, how could we not side with Russia.
Comrades! While Russia may look weak, it is not! They have secret weapons and powerful leaders long thought dead. Lenin? He’s alive. Stalin? That guy’s alive too. How could we lose? We even have China on the side of Red. What Canada should do is build a giant wall along the border of The United States. This way we can keep those filthy Americans from coming into our towns and cities, filming their movies.
We need to start developing technology that will give us control over other countries. We need a strong nuclear arsenal that will tell the world that we mean business. We need to develop a space program that will rival the United States. We must be the first to land a manned-ship on Mars. But above all, we need to start making better movies.
Once we start making better movies, places like the United States will know to stay away. They’ll know we aren’t a country to fuck with. We need stuff that is less like Men With Brooms and more like Porky’s. Except Porky would represent the United States and the rebellious teens would represent the iron spirit of Russia. They never give up, never surrender, and in the end, Communism claims the day.
I believe that we can make a difference in the world if we rid ourselves of this American influence. I believe that you, the people, can make the world a better place. I believe in you. Stalin believes in you. Communism believes in you. And Mother Russia believes in you.
