Women’s hockey: Bisons to play Kazakhstan in exhibition
A week after winning their second bronze medal at the CIS National Championships, the Bisons women’s hockey team will play a special exhibition game against the Kazakhstan national team.
The game will take place on Saturday, March 24 at 2 p.m. at the TG Smith Centre's Centennial Arena in Steinbach, Man.
The game is meant as a tune-up for the Kazakhstan team as they prepare for the 2007 IIHF World Women’s Hockey Championship, which is being held in Winnipeg and Selkirk from April 3-10.
The tickets are $10 ($5 for students). For more information, contact (204) 326-8571 or 326-6503. Proceeds from the event are going towards the Steinbach Minor Female Hockey Program Trust Fund.
Football: More honours for Izzy
On March 14, former Bisons star Israel (Izzy) Idonije was inducted by the province into Manitoba’s Order of the Buffalo Hunt in his hometown of Brandon.
The Order of the Buffalo Hunt, which was founded in 1957, is a prestigious honour given to individuals who have made outstanding and distinctive contributions to society and to the community.
Other Manitobans that have been given the honour include former pro-wrestler Chris Jericho, speed-skater Susan Auch, NHL star Teemu Selane, and musicians Neil Young, Burton Cummings, and Randy Bachman.
This is the second honour in as many weeks for Idonije. He was also presented with Honourary Citizenship to the city of Winnipeg on March 8.
