Despite the tuition freeze in Manitoba and all of UMSU’s campaigning for a lower-cost education, tuition may be on the rise for engineering students at the U of M. A referendum is currently being held in the faculty for an increase of up to 40 per cent per credit hour.
In addition, UMSU elections are still in progress, as voting begins on Feb. 28 and ends on March 2. The only contested race is between international student community representatives, so don’t forget to cast your ballot. Three student-fee referendum questions will also be voted on during that time period.
U of W has its fair share of news as well, as Devin King, the director of education for the students’ association (UWSA), resigned over the weekend. His reasons include the organization’s top-heavy structure as well as too much power coming from CFS.
Talk of gender-neutral washrooms is also in the air. See what students have to say about it in this week’s Toban Talkback.
However, still keep your eye on those stick figures on the washroom door. No changes will be made immediately. (Just FYI . . . )
