Spring break is over for students but the news didn’t stop while most people were vacationing, catching up on schoolwork, or sleeping in. The past week has been a busy one for candidates running in this year’s UMSU general elections. However, all positions are completely uncontested except for the two candidates running for international students community representative. The Manitoban will have full coverage on the election. Catch up on the election’s CRO position and what may be considered a controversial situation as well. Along with the election, a referendum is being held on student fees. Do you want to pay $3.20 more every year?
Aside from the three dollars, tuition may be going up for engineering students soon. The background is presented in this issue, but check back for updates next week as well.
Numerous issues have arisen on campus as negotiations between UMSU and Winnipeg Transit are still taking place for cheaper bus passes for university students, the university disciplinary committee has submitted a report on student behavior.
Also, if you’re planning on getting a building named after you at the U of M it may not be that easy after all; a new policy has been put in place by the Board of Governors.
Better not let the students that participated in this year’s Day of Action hear about the possible engineering tuition increase . . . they can yell really loud, even in 40-below weather.
