The great engineering Pi-Throw 06
Justice is sweet
Tracy Hunt
Forget hockey! The real event this winter is the Great Engineering Pi-Throw of 2006! For the week of February 6 to 10, we engineers are ready and waiting to deliver whipped cream pies to whatever target your devilish heart desires. Get the upper hand by Pi-ing your opponents, and when youre done, you can pie your friends, your TAs, even your professors. After all, what says, I want an A+ in your class like the gift of a whipped cream pie in the face? And who can refuse when all the money goes to support a great charity like Career Trek?
Interested? Okay, so heres how it works: A pie costs $5 at the Pi-Throw booth, located in the EITC atrium or in the University Centre. You can send this whipped cream pie to anyone, as long as you know their name and where theyre going to be at a given time. (For example, Room 135 Isbister at 1:00 on Thursday). But fear not. You are not defenseless against the flying pie. If you see a pie coming your way, you can redirect it to someone else for $5 (again, you need a name, time and location), or neutralize it for $10.
Of course, Pi-Throw is completely voluntary, and you can always choose not to participate but why would you want to miss out on all that tasty whipped cream and vengeance? However, if you dont like the thought of whipped cream in your eyebrows, but you do want to support Career Trek, you can buy a No-pie button at any of the pie booths throughout the week.
Pi-ing will begin first thing Wednesday morning and continue through Friday, but why wait until then to buy a pie? You can also pre-order your pies all day Monday and Tuesday. There will be a booth in the EITC atrium all week from 9:30 to 4:30, as well as a secondary booth in University Centre every day at lunchtime. During the week of the Pi-Throw, you can also compete in the Pi-lympics, with events like Pi-curling, Pi-eating, Pi-ctionary and Pi-athlon.
Need more incentive?
If we raise $1,000 by Friday afternoon, Ryan Supeene, Senior Stick of UMES, will accept a pie in the face at the Grand Pi-ing. If we reach $2,000, your very favourite dean of engineering and Amanda Aziz, UMSU president, will take the stage with Ryan, submitting to a wonderful whipped cream facial à la Pi-Throw. (Ive heard it does wonders for the complexion.)
If you have any questions about Pi-Throw, want to participate in the Pi-lympics or volunteer with Pi-ing, please email Kathryn Hearson at kathryn_hearson@umanitoba. Or, check out the Pi-Throw website at www.umes.mb.ca for more details and pictures of Pi-Throw 2005.
Unleash the desserts!
